Activation definitions that survive a festival week

Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali weeks scramble social app behaviour in Malaysia. Message volume spikes inside family groups; discovery of new communities slows; prepaid data patterns shift as people travel.

If your activation definition is “opened three times in week one,” festival weeks inflate activation without proving the product created new ties. If activation requires “joined an interest group and posted once,” festival weeks may understate healthy private chatting.

Neither definition is universally right. What matters is stating which social behaviour you intend to count — and re-checking it when the calendar turns. We ask audit clients for festival-marked weeks in the sample so a temporary family-chat surge is not mistaken for product-market fit.
